What a memorable way to celebrate Mother's Day. It was great to get calls from our children and grandchildren.
We were escorted down to the beach, riding double, and had our ceremonial tire dip in the Pacific Ocean at Manhattan Beach. It took a very long time to get out of LA, but on a Sunday morning traffic wasn't too bad.
Our group of 15 riders who are going from LA to Boston plus others who are going mostly to Santa Fe.
Three women are doing the full trip. Most of the riders are older than we are. Three riders are from the UK and one is from Quebec.
The day was cool and overcast most of the way with a tailwind the last 20 miles or so. Only about 3700 feet elevation gain. The 78 miles went very well. The last 9 miles into Riverside were along a street with rosebushes and palm trees in between the two lanes of traffic. Beautiful! We arrived at our hotel about 2:45 p.m.
To think about the whole trip is a little overwhelming. Our attitude is to take it one day at a time, not look ahead and enjoy the moment.
L and J, two of my heroes: I'm following you with much interest from another continent! As we were on our way to church this morning, I reminded our guys that this was the day for you to dip the tires in the ocean and get started. As gets said often in our neighborhood, "Watch your head!" and "God help you!". Love you! Dawn
