Whose Idea Was This Anyway??

We can't remember whose idea it was go bike Cross Country, but that really doesn't matter right now! On Sunday, May 9, we will be dipping our bicycle tire in the Pacific Ocean at the Manhattan Beach Pier in LA to begin our 3,415 mile trip to Boston by tandem.

We bought our first tandem bicycle 11 years ago to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary and our 50th birthdays. Since then, we have enjoyed many hours on our bike, including biking with our good friends who are members of the North Hall Bike Club in Akron.

Last year, with the purchase of a new Co-Motion tandem from Tandems East in NJ, we started seriously considering this trek. Yesterday, Mel from Tandens East, packaged our tandem (in cardboard and shrink-wrap) to be shipped to Los Angeles. We fly to LA on May 6 and hope to spend a day biking along the ocean before our orientation and start on May 9.

We are excited about the trip and (mostly Janie) experiencing some anxiety! Of course, LaVern is the encourager and will help keep our attitudes positive. We invite you to share in this experience.

It was great to meet you at Mel and Barbara's back in April. We wish you all the best on your trip - and are more than slightly envious!
